Thought For The Day

SOTU Address

Most likely by the time you read this the 2011 State of the Union address will be history. I have been intrigued by some of the comments published regarding what people would “like to hear” in the speech.

Since I am writing before the speech – I think we need to skip it altogether. Now wait a minute. It has nothing to do with the speaker per se, rather, what we need on the part of our politicians is less rhetoric and more work.

There is an abundance of talk. There is a seemingly infinite storehouse of verbiage, but problems are not resolved by talking about them, or by proposing solutions for them, but by actually doing the required labor.

The United States of America is to an alarming degree fiscally unsound, morally corrupt, and dangerously inattentive to our directional compass.

If we don’t get things turned around, how long will it be before the words of God in Proverbs become a reality for us – “Since you neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction, I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when terror strikes you, when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind. . . .”  Proverbs 1:25-27a
