Thought For The Day

The Need To Pray

I have been to Haiti. It is well known, and I have seen with my own eyes, that the standard of living there is incredibly low. Now with these reports regarding the earthquake, our hearts are turned toward helping the people recover whatever semblance of life will be left to them.

This quote from an article by Johnathan Katz of AP speaks clearly to the Truth:

Tens of thousands of people lost their homes as buildings that were flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions collapsed. Nobody offered an estimate of the dead, but the numbers were clearly enormous. “The hospitals cannot handle all these victims,” said Dr. Louis-Gerard Gilles. “Haiti needs to pray. We all need to pray together.”

Dr. Gilles is quite right. Unfortunately prayer seems to be the order of the day only when calamity or destruction fills our life. Perhaps if there were more prayer in the life of believers, there would be more people involved in sharing their faith with a lost and dying world, more support for on-going missions in countries like Haiti, and fewer folks who would face eternity without the grace of God as a reality in their life.

Tomorrow it could be you or me that is found trapped in a collapsed building, or crushed by falling debris. Pray today! Tomorrow is uncertain.
