Thought For The Day

Those Bikers

I spent Saturday morning in the Church yard, mowing, weedeating, cleaning flowerbeds, etc. For four hours I worked and watched as maybe 100 or more motorcycles (in several different groups) roared by the little Church where I am working. The truth is, I wished I could stop the work and join the “play.” I think most, maybe all, of those I saw were headed for Tyler. I had heard there was a “HOG” rally.

So many bikers (motorcycle riders for you neophytes) are part of the best people on Earth. Almost all bikers get that look from others of, shall we say, concern. I have seen it more than once. And, occasionally, concern is the right word.

(WACO, Texas)—Nine people were killed Sunday and some others injured after a shootout erupted among rival biker gangs at a Central Texas restaurant. (Associated Press)

There are some “bad” guys (and gals) out there. I have seen them, talked to them, and listened to their stories. The problem is not the Harley (and there may be some other bikes mixed in with the real ones), but the “heart.” Bikers, like everyone else, need Jesus Christ. Christian Motorcyclists Association does a good work of reaching out to bikers. There are Churches who  have motorcycle groups in their ranks, and there are so very many wonderful people (a lot of them “older”) who ride for enjoyment, and the beauty of a safe motorcycle experience.

So, share the road. Look twice for motorcycles. Don’t assume that every rider is on his way to a gun fight. And, given the opportunity, share a word of testimony with the next biker you see. He/She might just give you a hug and say, “Well done, brother.”

I know our Father will.

Amen…and it probably pays to be aware of your surroundings (know what their “colors” mean).

And as you say everyone needs Jesus (but I am not so sure about it having to be Preached from only a Harley).
