Thought For The Day

Tragic

I saw the headline – “Evangelical Women join ‘#MeToo’.” I find that mindset tragic in light of Truth. It appears some “Evangelical women” are encouraging “Churches” and “Church leaders” to speak out against sexual harassment, and violence against women.

I must be listening to a different group of “leaders” and “Churches” than others. The Scripture places a high value (an understatement) on women, and condemns violence against anyone. If that is not clear from the preaching and teaching of the Church and its leaders, there is a greater issue here than ‘#MeToo‘.

While I can only speak about the leaders and Churches with which I am familiar (to one degree or another), I don’t know any who have not spoken clearly about this issue from the beginning. I would not dispute that there are “Church leaders” who abuse (sexually and otherwise) others (both men and women) and I have little doubt that some “leaders” may be violent, but they cease to be “evangelical” (if they every were, in the best sense of that title) when they violate God’s design and His revealed Word.

No real Church, and no Church leader, who are “filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) of God (which is to say “controlled” by God’s Spirit within it/ him/her) will allow any kind of sexual harassment or violence against women to continue, or fail to rail against such when known.

It should be enough to say: Preach, teach, live the Truth. Persuade others to live out the Truth in every area of their existence. That is the message of the Gospel, of the Church, and the standard for every Believer – including “Church leaders.”
