Thought For The Day

Walking Tightropes

I managed to miss the walk. I do remember the first time I saw Niagara Falls. It is about as impressive as any site is – first time around. I read the stories about those who have gone over the Falls in barrels, and other kinds of contraptions – most of whom are no longer with us.
These Wallendas, however, are a different breed of folks.
There was “wind coming from every which way,” mist so powerful it clouded his vision and an unfamiliar wire beneath him, but daredevil Nik Wallenda didn’t let that stop him from becoming the first person to walk on a tightrope across the Niagara Falls. He took steady, measured steps Friday night for 1,800 feet on a wire across the widest part of the gorge of the roaring falls separating the U.S. and Canada, accomplishing what he said was his childhood dream — albeit wearing a tether. You wanna’ be next? Me neither!
In a sense, though, really, we are on a thin wire called life. We are not given “tethers” to use. It (life) can end at any moment and, just like falling from the wire would undoubtedly have ended Mr. Wallenda’s life, our departure from this World is always sudden. . .no matter how drawn out it may be.
Hence, being prepared is essential. Learning to walk the wire of Godliness and holiness gives us great pleasure, but in the end. . .there is only the Savior into whose grace we fall when our time here is up. When our numbered days are complete, it is into His divine presence we enter because of the cross on which He died to redeem us.
I could never walk a single step with “the great Wallenda.” I would never walk another step without the infinite Lamb of God – who died for me.
