Thought For The Day

What Does One Say

If you were a Preacher and the President of the United States and his family walked in one Sunday morning to hear your message – what would you say?

I asked our Preacher, and he responded that he does not comment on non-existent problems.

The President and his family attended “Easter” services at the Episcopal Church near the White House on Sunday. The minister, Rev. Dr. Luis Leon, used his sermon to encourage parishoners to look forward and not be stuck in the past, and he added a political edge with criticism of some right-leaning conservative Christians. “The captains of the religious right are always calling us back, back, back,” he said. “For blacks to be back in the back of the bus, for women to be back in the kitchen, for gays to be in the closet, and for … immigrants to be on their side of the border,” he said.

I don’t think our Pastor is a “captain of the religious right,” but he does continually call us “back to Christ.” Back to the TRUTH of Scripture, and back to holy, Godly living, are the major themes of his messages.

The opportunity to present a message to the President and his family should never be wasted. If this quote is typical of the sermon the President heard, in my opinion, the opportunity was wasted. What do we not understand about obeying the laws of the land regarding immigration? What do we not understand about the beauty of a homemaker, mom, and children’s advocate. What do we not understand about the abomination of homosexuality? What do we not understand about the reality that the only people who should sit in the back of the bus are the ones who get on after all the other seats are filled?

Let’s get back to the right message for the President, his family, and every other person who enters the doors of a “Church.”

God lloves you. He sent His Son to redeem you. Abandon your sinful life and embrace the cross of Christ. Life eternal, beginning now, hangs in the balance.
