Thought For The Day

What To Call Us

What do you call those folks down at the local Church? I mean besides “hypocrite.” The Pastor asked us that question tonight in our study of Biblical characteristics of people who are designed to “practice The Faith.”

The most common designation is “Christian.” But what does that really mean? It would appear that the vast majority of folks in the United States believe that if one was born in the U. S. they are a Christian. People who are members of a church (Church) are Christians. People who own a Bible or attend “Church” services at regular or irregular intervals must be Christians. Nailing down what is the correct definition is at best difficult, and impossible at worst.

It is the opinion of the Pastor that the folks about whom we speak should be called “Believers,” if indeed they have a Biblical relationship with God. It should be obvious that one must believe that Jesus Christ paid the ransom necessary to end the curse of sin and death, receive the grace of God, and experience the reality of God’s Spirit taking up residence in one’s innermost being providing His presence and power.

But believing goes far beyond that if an individual wishes to live as God designed. To be obedient to the revealed Word of God one must believe that he is to find life in the Church (the Body of Christ), utilizing the Spiritual gifting that is provided for direct ministry to others in the family of God, and reaching out to others with the Good News of slk

You can call those folks down at the Church anything you like. The only thing that really matters is what they really are. Hopefully they are Believers.
