Thought For The Day

Who’s Running the Asylum

I remember when my mostly perfect bride was a freshman student at the University we attended. I could walk her up the steps to the dorm, but not past the door to the lobby. PDA’s (public display of affection – like holding hands) were absolutely forbidden, and the dorm mother had a thousand eyes. Of course we had our own ideas about what ought to happen at that door, but we were not in charge – and now, much older and wiser, we are grateful for those who cared enough to help us stay on the right path.

My reading this morning reminded me that while this sort of thing, about which I am going to tell you, is not particularly new, it is becoming more widespread, and I find that troubling.

According to a OneNewsNow report, the University of Chicago announced “the decision to parents in a letter that was sent in mid-December. The change in boarding rules will allow students of the opposite sex to reside in the same room, and the school says the decision was born from a student-led initiative. [Emphasis mine] Students who wish to have a coed roommate will not need parental consent.” One critic said, “In addition, it’s not going to stop here, [At] some colleges they actually have coed bathrooms. . .”

I always thought that those who run the University were (or ought to be) smarter, wiser, more experienced, etc., and would therefore make better decision than the general student population. When they [the administration] help with the moral destruction that students have, by in large, always been in favor of until they are old enough, and wise enough, to realize and understand the foolishness of such behavior, it is a scary thing.

I probably would not have even considered entering that dorm when I was seventeen, and God knows my life-partner would not have allowed it anyway, because our parents had taught us the value of morality, Godliness, and Truth. I often wonder if our society will survive when the inmates run the asylum.
