Thought For The Day

Words

I want you to take a moment to consider a parallel. Things that happen in the World that have nothing to do with the Truth of God’s Word often make abundantly clear the reasons so many of God’s children are confused about the reality of God’s design for their life, and the relationship that we have with our Savior. When one cannot trust the Preacher/Teacher with being accurate and clear, there is much room for the Enemy to wreak havoc in the Believer’s life.

Consider:

When Presidents abuse words, the nation should notice. President Obama has rolled out his executive action on immigration with a talking point that guts the meaning of a word for political ends. As a general rule, democracies should take notice when their leaders do this. Why does this matter? Because words matter. They mean specific things. And that meaning must be defended, because words facilitate the basic premise of open and honest debate that undergirds a democratic system. As George Orwell wrote, in the definitive essay  on this topic, “If thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” War is not peace. The sun is not blue. Six is not less than five. There are lots of ways Obama could have chosen to make his case that his executive actions provide the nation an improvement over the status quo. Corrupting the meaning of a word (amnesty), however, is not a noble one, nor is confusing the debate. It is, to use another word with a clear meaning, deceptive. (TIME)

Listening to so many prominent Preachers/Teachers in their pulpits and on television and radio (and their following is legion), it is easy to see why so many are confused. Hearing one local Preacher this past week speak of God’s creation of  the first man as “genderless, because God is Himself genderless,” leaves open the possibility that the sinful movement of our society toward such foolishness is God’s perfect design. Examples of such inaccuracy regarding so much of theology has left the Church divided, and a significant number of “members” of every Church “lost” in a maze of misunderstand and divisiveness.

As Nations should notice, so should God’s people.
