A Conundrum
My next door neighbors have filled a portion of their yard with tiny tombstones and spiderweb looking “stuff.” As I move about our community I see a lot of those kinds of things – spiders, ghouls, witches, etc., and I wonder. . .”why?”
Thanks, I know the short answer. Why is it that people who would never involve themselves in a conversation about death, and are fearful of spiders and ghouls, fill their yards, homes, lives, with this kind of paraphernalia for a short time each year?
An even larger question for me is how Believers can get caught up in this sort of foolishness, which, in part, is forbidden by God’s Word. I have spent enough time in cemeteries without having to “pretend” for a moment that my yard is one. Death is a result of sin – and I want no part of that. I hate sin because it snatches those I llove from my presence and leaves a void in my life.
I am not afraid of death – since it is a defeated foe. I know that for Believers it is a transit door to the greatest victory. I just don’t need a “foolish reminder” – anytime, for any reason.
