A Little Mathematical Help

Those who know me well understand that I am a near genius when it comes to Mathematics (required to be an aspiring astrophysicist). There is one little problem I am having, however. So, if you know the answer. . . .

I keep hearing that the odds against winning the Mega Millions Lottery, or the PowerBall lottery, or whatever, is about a gazillion to one. This morning I read that two people had winning tickets in the Mega Millions Lottery. So, here’s where I need the help. What are the odds against two people winning something that leaves the gate at a gazillion to one? Is it twice that or half that?

Well, I imagine those odds are similar to the odds regarding whether a guest at most Churches will genuinely feel welcome and wanted the first time they attend. I have been talking to lots of people over a span of many years, and I hardly ever find one who discovers on their first visit to a new Church that wonderful feeling of knowing you are joining warm, friendly, welcoming brothers and sisters in Christ for the joyful celebration of Worship.

It is likely the odds against the Pastor waiting by the front door to thank you for coming when you arrive or when you leave are astronomically high. Some will say, of course, that is not his job.
