Thought For The Day

A Win? I Guess

Do you ever have trouble figuring out the U. S. Supreme Court’s thinking? I know I do. Their ruling announced today (April 28, 2009) regarding what can and cannot be said on live television is a win, I suppose, for those who are opposed to profanity and crude, vulgar language. But at least two of the judges indicated that the ban will not last long.

According to Associated Press, Justice Clarence Thomas sided with the majority Tuesday, but nevertheless noted that the previous decision and an even earlier case “were unconvincing when they were issued, and the passage of time has only increased doubt regarding their continued validity.”

“Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who dissented Tuesday along with the other three liberal justices, similarly raised constitutional concerns. Ginsburg said that in a case that turns on government restriction of spoken words, “there is no way to hide the long shadow the First Amendment casts over what the commission has done.”

Pardon me, but I have a question. I don’t hear anything about the “long shadow the First Amendment casts” regarding the rhetoric from the Court regarding “hate speech.”  If it’s Constitutionally allowable for vocabulary challenged individuals to use vulgarities and profanity on TV, why are we moving toward it being a crime for my Pastor to make clear the abomination of homosexuality (as revealed in God’s Word) from the pulpit?

The liberal leaning Court seems to want it both ways. But, of course, I have a solution to the first problem. Since the difficulty arises most often during the “award shows” where the Hollywood crowd, that can’t think of intelligent and creative words, and must resort to the phonetic garbage that fills their minds, “honors” one another for their “work,” why not just eliminate their opportunities from the airwaves. I don’t know why anyone would want to watch that stuff anyway. Replace it with something worthwhile, like. . .say, “Readings from LloveLetters.com,”  the definitive word on almost everything . . .ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. . . .
