Thought For The Day

Another Church

On Sunday, April 6th, I visited another Church close to my home. It was raining so I was confident the crowd would be smaller than normal (I have no idea what normal is for this group) so I am going to assume there are more folks involved than I saw today.

The Worship service was scheduled for 11am and we (my bride and I) arrived about 6-8 minutes early. The man who met us at the front door was friendly, seemed to know about the schedule (he said we were not too early or too late, but just right) and showed us the restrooms, directed us to the doughnuts, and led us  to the “auditorium” where the service was about to begin. Only as he was about to leave us to speak with some other folks did he mention he was the PASTOR. I was impressed.

There were only about 25 or so people present, but the Praise Team (four people) was very good (harmonized well, seemed prepared, knew the songs), which is not something you often see in a small Church.

The Pastor did not preach – a guest (his Father-in-Law did) filled the Pulpit. He was older than me (I know, hard to believe). His sermon (message) was not the best I ever heard and it was looooong (you know how I hate that).

Then, wonder of wonders, the Pastor was at the back  of the “auditorium” and thanked us for coming, encouraging us to return. Now I am really impressed.

I don’t know that I will ever return there – who know that kind of thing, but I do know that Pastor cared about our being there. They even had a few moments during the service to “greet one another,” and almost everyone spoke to us – or introduced themselves – or asked us to come again.

The congregation seems a bit eclectic – but I will let you figure that out if you are looking for a “friendly” Church. The name? Oh, yeah! Grace Point Baptist Church on HWY 26 near Harwood Road, North Richland Hills, TX.

All in all, not a bad morning.  I am going to send that guy a note. He “deserves” credit in my book.
