Thought For The Day

Bless the Lord

There are at least 43 verses in Scripture where we are given information regarding specifically whom the Lord blesses. While I understand that it may be difficult to believe we are being blessed during these days when we long to be together to Worship, I assure you our Father is blessing us beyond measure.

The question in my mind is whether or not we are blessing Him. It is easy to think that we do that on a fairly regular basis by gathering two or three times a week  (though that has been lowered to two times, or one time, in the order of many “Churches.”) to Worship and praise our God.

I was reading Psalm 134 this morning and reminding myself that I don’t have to be at the Church’s building to Worship the Lord. Even as this Psalm pictures the worshipers exhorting the priest to continued faithfulness, so we, under grace, are the “servants” of the Lord who need to be encouraged to faithfulness. In fact, if it is likely that if I don’t practice the discipline of Prayer and Praise in my own house, I will not be very good at doing it in the place of collectivity. To really see what I mean, you need to stop here and read the Psalm.

Are you a servant (slave) of the Lord? Yes. Therefore we should not have missed a single day (or night) of “blessing the Lord” even though we are missing time together. You can “lift up your hands” ( a common OT practice which was understood figuratively in the NT) right where you are to worship, pray, study the Scripture, and encourage others to do so as well. When we do so (verse 3) the Lord who made Heaven and Earth will bless you from Heaven (Zion, where the Tabernacle, and God’s presence was when this was written).

Perhaps NOW is a good time to “Bless the Lord.”
