Thought For The Day

Bread of Life

One of the long chapters in the Bible is John 6. It is so rich with the discussion about real and false disciples.

I am especially intrigued by those people, then and now, who focus on the “things” they are convinced goes with the “Christian life,” yet seem to have no interest in embracing in faith the Savior. The only work of God that we can accomplish (even though it is a gift from Him) is believing – which is faith.

In verse 30 – “what sign then are You going to do so we may see and believe you? they asked. What are You going to perform?” There are so many, then and now, who want the performance – the “bread,” or the other “goodies” that they believe come with following Christ. They wanted a permanent food supply (notice there reference to Moses). They said, “Sir, give us this bread always.” They did not understand that Jesus  was/is the “Bread of Life.” The manna supplied by God for Moses and the children of Israel in the desert (see Exodus) could not give them eternal life. That generation, including Moses, died in the wilderness. Only the true Bread of Life could give them life that would never end.

Stop looking and longing for the “things,” and take instead the Savior. Isn’t that what you really want? In Him and Him alone is “real” life.
