Thought For The Day

Prayer and the Supreme Court

It’s clear that the Supreme Court has joined (perhaps they always have been a part) the vast majority of American Citizens who have no real understanding of prayer.

Since there are eleven jillion (give or take) books on prayer, I will not attempt to describe it in these few short words. What I will say is simply this – there is no such thing as a “ceremonial prayer.” Now that the Supreme court has approved “ceremonial prayer” even more folks will be confused.

Prayer is purposeful communication with God; real, genuine communication with God. If one is not qualified to speak with God (I will get some criticism for that phrase), or if one is talking to someone other than God (the attending crowd for example), a frequent practice in most Churches, the whole process is just an exercise in futility.

Perhaps if everyone understood this issue there would be less concern about the practice in question. For the most part, the whole operation is just foolishness (or ignorance) and won’t affect much if anything anyway, so why the concern?
