Thought For The Day

Citizenship

Having just come through a United States of America Independence Day weekend, I want to remind you how important it is that you involve yourself in becoming informed as a citizen of your country. Our nation (the USA) is a “democracy inside a republic” according to our National Creed. Established on a firm foundation of laws we are represented by men and women whom we have chosen, and they in turn create new laws and make determinations regarding those laws already established.

Choosing the wrong people to represent us is a dangerous business. Unfortunately that is easy to do if we are not studied, wise, and involved in the process. One member of Congress (Maxine Waters) recently made a statement that she would be willing to pursue a course where Government would take over the major oil companies and run them more effectively. Obviously the Government is ill equipped to run much of anything if you consider the current operation of Government programs. If we are not aware of the thinking of those we elect to office, we will often be the recipients of bad government.

We also need to be knowledgeable regarding our citizenship in the Kingdom of God. Failure to know the Truth and apply it to our life on a day to day basis leads us to miss God’s best for us. While various trials come, through which we prove to ourselves that our faith is genuine, it is the Truth we know and practice that allows us to know the “inexpressible and glorious joy” (1 Peter 1:8) that is a part of our inheritance in Christ Jesus, and that sustains us as we walk through life.

Be a “good” citizen of your Nation. Be a “good” citizen of the Kingdom of God. Both are absolutely vital.
