Thought For The Day

July 4th

Tomorrow is the 4th of July. Yes, England has a 4th of July, but they are not celebrating. We are! Still!!

I llove the United States of America. And while things are pretty bleak these days, this is still the greatest Nation in the World. We cannot deny, however, that we are on a “slippery slope” that leads to catastrophic failure. Any student of the history of Nations understands that when a Nation is rotten at the core it is not far to failure. We must remember that line from the writing of Alexis De Tocqueville, “When America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” How right he is.

Electing the next President will not change the course of our society. Figuring out how to get Congress on permanent vacation (or better yet, firing them all) will not change the course of our society. Building more efficient cars, or tapping our abundant oil and gas resources will not change the course of our society. A skyrocketing stock market will not change the course of our society.

Only an intervention by God will change our society. That’s not likely when our attention, both spiritual and secular are focused elsewhere.

I’m going to wave the flag tomorrow. I’m going to eat apple pie, attend a baseball game, watch spectacular fireworks, and stand tall with teary eyes when the National Anthem is played. And, I am going to share God’s Word. It’s our only hope!
