Thought For The Day

Cold Out There

As I sit here in my cozy office, looking out the window, it looks cold. The thermometer reads 26 degrees. For most of the people in this Country, that is not really very cold. I checked the temperature where my buddy lives in SD, and it said ZERO. That is getting on down there.

There are going to be some snow flurries, the weatherman said, sometime today. Nothing will stick to the ground, so it will end about as fast as it starts. I don’t mind either way, the snow is beautiful, but it hinders a lot of the work on the farm.

I have noticed that the “hearts” of a lot of God’s people seem to have grown cold as well. That has nothing to do with the weather (well, maybe a little), rather it has to do with a lack of intimacy with the Father, and a lessening of our attachment to one another as the family of God. I am reminded of the latter every time my bride says to me – “rake those logs together more and they will burn.” I know that, but I let her think she is giving me sage counsel. It is amazing how quickly the fire goes out on a single log, but burns completely when gather together with the pile. Maybe I  should say “continually” rather than completely. I don’t want our family to burn completely, just continually, effectively “heating” the community around us with the llove of our Savior.

Is it fair of me to ask the temperature of your heart? Is it “hot” for our Savior? Does it draw you to the family of God where faith grows, minds are renewed and refreshed, and relationships are strengthened by our intertwinement with one another?

It is cold outside! Don’t let that be the condition of your heart.
