Deficits

What if the individual States, or our Nation as a whole, cannot get this economic disaster we are experiencing under control? I am reminded of some words I heard years ago regarding another place, but they seem applicable here — “Will the last person leaving California please turn out the lights.”

From an Associated Press story by Samantha Young:

“California’s controller will start paying many of the state’s bills with IOUs as soon as Thursday after lawmakers failed to close the state’s worsening budget deficit, adding a new measure of indignity to a state sinking deeper into dysfunction. State Controller John Chiang said his office is prepared to issue IOUs totaling $3.3 billion in July.

I am not sure how my creditors would react if I sent them an IOU instead of a payment, but I suspect it would not go well. And I could not help but think about God working with a deficit and providing for His people with IOU’s instead of the rich blessings with which we are constantly showered.  Imagine an IOU from God regarding sunshine. “Just hang in there in the dark for a few weeks, and I will get the sun back in working order for you.” Or, “Don’t worry about that polluted air you’ve saddled yourself with, I’ll get the breezes and winds back on line in no time.”

We make such a mess of things in life, and God continues to provide for us with infinite llove and care. I am sure that if we were a bit more responsible (read: obedient) regarding the Truth, we wouldn’t have so many problems.
