Thought For The Day

Faith and Confidence

Where one can place one’s trust, and the confidence that one can have in whatever it is that they suppose to be trustworthy, is falling fast.

A Washington Post analysis of many Gallup polls finds a profound loss of faith in many major institutions in recent years. Only 36 percent of Americans said they had “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the presidency, down from 72 percent two decades ago. Confidence in Congress declined from 42 percent in 1973 to 9 percent in 2016, making it the least trusted institution surveyed. Confidence in the media also took a big hit. Confidence in newspapers dropped from 39 percent in 1973 to 21 percent in 2016 and confidence in television news dropped from 46 percent in 1995 to 20 percent in 2016. Confidence was down for “the church or organized religion” from 65 percent in 1973 to 41 percent in 2016.  (US NEWS)

I am neither surprise nor worried. I have always believed that polls are suspect. . .meaning I don’t think they are trustworthy, and I have little confidence in them. I don’t doubt that “confidence” in our Government is eroding quickly, but I thought everyone had given up “confidence” in the media long, long ago. I checked around and discovered there are still people who subscribe to newspapers. . .they just don’t believe what they report. It’s no wonder confidence in televised news has sunk to an unbelievable 20%, even the dumbest. . .I mean, the most uneducated can readily see and hear the bias of the “news folk.”

I am concerned about confidence  in “the church (sic) or organized religion.” But not overly concerned. After all, I don’t think our confidence ought to be in the Church, rather, it ought to be in our Heavenly Father, and Christ the Lord. If and when the Church gains confidence (trust?) in Almighty God, the Alpha and Omega, subsequently finding confidence in those who comprise the Church will be a simple and easy task. Each individual will be trustworthy, servant-minded, committed to good works and practicing llove toward the brethren. Those relatively simple tasks are the bulwark of a Church that is maturing in “the Faith,” and obedient to the inerrant Word of God.

One can have confidence in that!!!
