Thought For The Day

More Justice!

There’s a new Justice in town. The Senate, as you know by now, confirmed Dr. Gorsuch to the SCOTUS. If we get what we are told, then I can’t help but be happy and excited to see how justice breaks in the years ahead.

In many ways, he’s a natural heir to Scalia: Gorsuch’s core judicial philosophy and writing style are strikingly similar to the man he’s replacing. Both are originalists, who interpret the Constitution based on the intent of the founders, and textualists, who look at the words of the document rather than legislative history. (TIME)

I think our Preacher is a little like him. He is an originalist. The origin of “everything” is God, our Heavenly Father. He works very hard at interpreting the Scripture based on the intent of the founder, sustainer, Redeemer and Friend of this Cosmos. He  attempts to take the text literally and contextually, understanding there is no mixture of error within it, and depends on the document rather than the shifting winds of doctrinal change and the often distorted history of the Church’s human leaders.

If we see the Constitution trusted, revered, and followed, we could be in for some good actions taking place in the Judicial Branch of Government. It may even begin to approach the joyful wonder of the Church of Jesus Christ when the Scripture (the Word of the Lord God) is proclaimed, believed, and implicitly followed.
