Thought For The Day

Going Both Ways

“Pope Francis’ surprise endorsement of same-sex civil unions reverberated through the Roman Catholic world Thursday, with his comments prompting criticism, but also support. . . .”  Catholicism has always been on the wrong side of Biblical Truth, and this should not come as a surprise. Finding Civil unions acceptable, but Church unions forbidden, is the attempt to go both ways on issues where one desires to circumvent the clear Truth of God’s Word.

Unfortunately the problem occupies more issues than marriage. In every denomination of Believers, not to mention the gatherings of people who practice religion without any respect for, or recognition of God, there are attempts on the part of multitudes to go both ways. There has always been a contingency of people who want the “promises” of God, but offer no allegiance to Him in return, There are those who join Churches, believing that  action conveys some assurance of Heaven, but have no desire to attend on a regular basis or support the ministries of that Body. People who “walked the aisle” (a euphemism for being redeemed), or have been “baptized,” are legion, but express no faith or llove, both Biblical measures of genuine salvation. They want (??) the “real deal” without the requirements (see Romans 10:9-10, 13).

Scripture is clear in stating, “If any one be in Christ (salvation, redemption, born again), he is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Look, all thing have become new.” (2 Corinthians5:17) It would appear that going both ways is not an option if the Scripture and God’s indwelling Spirit are the guide, but scores of people choose that as their lifestyle. The outcome of that action (ignoring clear Biblical Truth) is separation from God forever.

Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth. Jesus said, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, I am the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
