Hiding God’s Word

There’s too much hiding of God’s Word! There is not enough hiding of God’s Word! Yes. Both are true. Here’s how.

Psalm 119:11 gives clear instruction that the Word of God must be deeply ingrained in our innermost being. Some translations tell us to “hide” it there. Others talk about “treasuring” it there. Whatever the translation, God’s Word must not be unfamiliar or strange to us. We need not only to read it regularly, and study it with consistency, but place it where it will always be available for our use as we face the issues of life – deep in our minds.

2 Corinthians 4:3 speaks of the very real hiddenness of the Word of God when it fails to be apparent in our lives. There is a continuing, constant tragedy in the Church of Jesus Christ as the Truth (God’s Word is Truth) is hidden from Believers because it is an offense to the disobedient. Unfortunately it is sometimes hidden due to the ignorance of the one who stands to proclaim. But the greatest hiding is that accomplished by Believers who, through their everyday walk and work, fail to live out the Truth in the details of life. Most unbelievers will never enter the door of a building where the Truth of God’s Word is clearly and accurately exposited each time the congregation gathers. Rather they are observers of the “walk” of those who claim to be citizens of Heaven, born again to a new life in Christ, possessors of resurrection power – and yet struggle, worry, lose battles with the Enemy, and fall short of the victorious overcoming life promised by God Himself, thereby hiding the Word of God from those who might “see” and “believe.”

Hide the Word of God! Don’t hide the Word of God! Right? Right!
