Thought For The Day

Home

I understand there is a difference between a “house” and a “home.” But putting that aside for a moment, how much time have you spent thinking about the size of your home? I have friends who live in BIG houses, little houses, mobile houses, and every in-between size I can imagine. Some have bought tract houses, others have built one of their own design (I did that finally), and some (how I envy them) have a house they can take with them on vacation. . .and live in it year ’round.

Now comes news Millennials are looking to buy –

Think most millennials wouldn’t be caught dead buying their parents’ hulking 10,000-square-foot McMansions? You’re right — they want 20,000 square feet instead. About 40% of wealthy younger buyers — those aged 25 to 49 — told real estate broker Luxury Portfolio International they hope to own a house larger than 10,000 square feet, long considered the upper range for McMansions, in a survey published this week. Nearly a quarter — 23% — said they want a home 20,000 square feet or larger. (Money)

My bride and I live in a place of our own design. It measures 20’x40′ and has two rooms, a bathroom, and a loft. Suffice it to say it is pretty small. We LLOVE it! It has large windows on three sides so that we can see the beauty of God’s forest all around. We can clean the whole thing in 30 minutes. Heating and cooling don’t cost much, and no one can come and stay over unless they want to sleep on the floor (we do keep the youngest grandkids from time to time).

But we have a place coming our way sooner or later. I have no idea how BIG or small my portion may be, but Jesus said He was preparing it for us. Some call it a “mansion,” and Jesus called it a “dwelling place” in John 14:2, and we are confident it is where He lives, so how could we complain.

One thing is for sure – No matter the size of your house on this Earth, when the Earth is gone you will spend eternity in the “house of the Lord,” or you will be separated from Him, and the place prepared for those who are His, forever. If you have not explored that reality, you best get at it.
