Thought For The Day

Is The Federal Government IN or OUT

Yesterday’s voting brought marijuana back to the forefront of many minds when Colorado and Maine potheads made some significant inroads regarding the use of the substance. Proponents are moving forward in a dozen or more other States where it appear there is sentiment for making the use of pot legal. It probably won’t be long before there is a “pot store” near your house – no matter where you live (right now you might have to go across town to find a street dealer – depending on your neighborhood).

The Colorado Governor assured every one they are going to make “every effort” to ensure that “kids” don’t smoke it, and adults who smoke weed and drive will be kept from the public pathways.

It is interesting to me that the Federal Government has made some uncharacteristic statements:

In an August memo, U.S. Deputy Attorney General James Cole said that the federal government would not attempt to interfere with efforts, like the ones in Washington and Colorado, to implement marijuana legalization laws passed by state voters. (Yahoo News)

They (the Feds) want to interfere in the States regarding voting laws, immigration laws, insurance laws, gun laws, abortion laws, re-districting laws, education laws, banking laws, – must I go on with this endless list? So why no interest in the movement to get a sector of our society stoned? Marijuana is a “gateway drug.” It is a short distance from pot to pills. It is even shorter from pills to meth, heroin, cocaine – well, there is another endless list.

Is there no one in the Federal Government who is willing to take a moral stand against drugs? Ted, Mike, we need you here too – for the sake of our future.
