Thought For The Day

It’s An Election Year

It is easy to know that State and National elections are coming by listening to any media outlet. The closer the time comes to vote, the more intense the advertisements.

It seems to me that most of them are negative ads. Not many, if any, focus on the positives of one’s candidacy, rather the time (and money) are spent “running down” the opponent.

In the Presidential Election there seems to be as much “mud slinging” as there is positive information regarding the issues. I have a question.

Is it acceptable for a Christian (both presumed candidates claim that status) to abandon the clear commands of Scripture to secure a “leg up” on the opponent?

For example: The HCS version puts it like this: No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need in order to give grace to those who hear.

On second thought, never mind. I forgot. This is politics. Christians are not required to be obedient to the Truth of Scripture if they are running for office – right? Those who are not Christians have no mandate to be truthful – so neither should the genuine Believer, right?

Expediency – yeah, that’s the ticket.
