It Feels Good

We often talk about “feel good” movies or stories – and we share many of those with others in our realm of influence. Everybody (do I need to say “almost”) likes to feel good.

I read one of those narratives this morning – you may have seen it, I hope it made you feel good.

In an era when “new life” is for many folks so valueless, and our society routinely takes the life of the weakest and most innocent among us without hesitation and doubt, we are reminded that every life (from conception to the oldest among us) is valuable, important, and designed by God for something good (even when we are told otherwise).

When Kenna Moore left Presbyterian Hemby Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday afternoon, it was no ordinary discharge. Little Kenna spent the entire six months of her life in the hospital after being born on Jan. 9 weighing only 9.6 ounces — smaller than a can of soda. “Today is one of the happiest days of our lives. After 183 days in neonatal intensive care, our beautiful baby Kenna is coming home,” her parents, Nicki and Sam Moore, said in a statement. (ABC News)

Kenna’s mother “took abortion off the table” after she was told the baby had stopped growing after 18 weeks. At 24 weeks, Kenna was born – and now, going home.

It makes me feel good, real good, especially when it come on the heels of the reality that not all babies live to birth, losing their life to natural causes. I can’t imagine anything worse than losing one’s child to an unexpected death. But it is that very reality that makes this narrative so wonderful.

I KNOW God does all thing good and right! I don’t understand many of the things He does – and sometimes I cry out in anger and distress – but this seems so right. I feel good!
