Thought For The Day

It’s Me, Me, Me!

Jamaica has produced a runner. Mr. Bolt is about as fast as it gets (so far)! He was so far ahead in the 200, no one else was even in the picture. I am intrigued by his speed, I am appalled by his lack of maturity. It’s clear he is focused on himself – and it appears, that alone. He’s got a long way to go to become an influence for the Olympics and perhaps sports in general.

He is not alone, however. It would appear that a significant majority of folks out there are focused only on themselves, or certainly themselves first. I think it is clear in our language – maybe it is just sloppy English, but the reality rings true. Listen: “me and my kids are going to. . .; me and my wife got this new. . .; me and Bob and Joe are heading for. . . . It’s epidemic. People drive as if they are the only ones on the roadway, talk on their cell so loudly everyone in the restaurant (room, store, theatre, etc.) knows their business.

In other words, it’s all about me! How antithetical to genuine Christianity. Lloving Him – and lloving others, which always means putting them first.

It’s OK to win. It’s good to win. But how about acknowledging the effort of others? And stop pounding your chest. You made the statement with your incredibly fast run. No need to play the fool.
