Thought For The Day

Judicial Integrity?

As we watch our World, our Country, our society, and our morality slip into the abyss of sinfulness without peer, I can’t but be amazed at the lengths some will go to “have it their way.”

An Oregon Judge is being investigated in regard to his fitness for the Bench because he chooses to avoid performing same-sex marriages. In fact, he chose to stop performing weddings altogether. Therefore he must be unfit for sitting on the Bench in any matter.

(SALEM, Ore.) — Marion County Judge Vance Day is being investigated by a judicial fitness commission in part over his refusal to perform same-sex marriages on religious grounds, a spokesman for the judge said. (Associated Press)

I was under the impression that Judges could choose the “cases” they felt would be compromised by their knowledge, prejudices, history, or thinking, and could recuse themselves. Obviously that would not be the case in performing marriages.

The article I read concluded with the following:

Day’s move concerned Jeana Frazzini, co-director of the gay-rights group Basic Rights Oregon. “Taking that kind of a step really calls into question how an LGBTQ person could expect to be treated in a court of law,” Frazzini said. “It goes beyond marriage and gets to serious questions about judicial integrity.” (IBID.)

God forbid an LGBTQ person should end of in front of such a Judge for robbing a bank.

I would ask, “What is this World coming to?” But that would be a waste because I already know the answer. I’ll wager you do too.
