Thought For The Day

Vital Truth

I know that sometimes proclaiming the Truth is divisive. That does not change the Truth. I need to say a word about forgiveness.

For the past four weeks our Pastor has been speaking about the characteristics of our Savior in His encounter with the Scribes and Pharisees when they attempted to trap Him with a woman who had sinned. Obviously I cannot recount here all of the important facts regarding this matter, but it is indisputable that Jesus Christ stated clearly and emphatically that NO ONE is allowed to make a judgement against anyone except (the) One who is without sin. Forgiveness can come only from God. (See John 8:1ff)

I repeat, forgiveness of sin is a divine priority. Only God can forgive sin.

Pope Francis’ offer is also not new — it widens a common Catholic practice. Traditionally bishops are the ones who have the authority to grant forgiveness for certain grave sins like abortion, and they have in the past also shared that power with priests. As the top bishop, the Bishop of Rome, Francis is making that practice as wide as possible during the Jubilee Year. (TIME)

Forgiveness of sin is vital for the Believer each time sin occurs. Forgiveness for the sin of “unbelief” is vital for those who are yet to come to faith in Christ. But, only God can forgive sin in the life of an individual. Talking to a Priest, Pastor, Bishop, Clergy, Teacher, Guru, (choose your own term) or any other person may be helpful, comforting, educational, (use any term you like here as well), but no human can forgive sin.

Because you need forgiveness, and we all do (see Romans 3:23), make sure you go directly to the only place where divine forgiveness is available. God! If you need help with that, see someone who knows the TRUTH.
