Just Making It Up

People ask me if I read the books about people who have gone to Heaven and returned to Earth to tell their story. I don’t. I have never believed that the stories are real. Children have “written” several of the books, and I wonder how a child so young could put those stories together without some help from others. I am convinced that children are often exploited in multitudes of ways, and “going to Heaven” is just one more in the mix.

One such young person (now 16) had a book published in 2010 which was on the New York Times best sellers list. Now, he has written a letter to the publisher:

The letter that Alex, who is now 16, wrote to publishers said he made the whole thing up: ” I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get me attention. When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough.” (Business Insider)

People have been making up stuff since time began, and the Church has never been exempt. Spurious miracles, fake faith healers, multitudes of non-Biblical doctrines such as “a second blessing,” being “slain in the Spirit,”  and the whole specter of what John MacArthur (Grace To You) calls “charismatic chaos.”

Alex (the young man referred to above) does have one thing right; “read the Bible, which is enough.” (IBID.)

We (the Redeemed) will go to Heaven, and Heaven will come on Earth. Until then, discover the Truth of Scripture, and don’t make stuff up!
