Thought For The Day

Knowing the Time

As I endured the hour long Bible Study at my Church last night, the Pastor/Teacher covered the middle verses of Romans 13. I was startled, I guess, when he arrived at verse 11, and spoke to the fact that it was time to “AWAKE from sleep!” I may have been dozing at the time.

In any case, I am reminded that it is not the lack of people in society that are interested in the Church of Jesus Christ that describes our problem. Nor is it the lack of financial resources that inhibit our accomplishment of actually being effective in spreading the Good News of the Gospel. Rather, it is the apathy and indifference of the people sitting in the pew (or “theatre” seating, as the case may be these days) on any given Sunday (or Wednesday evening for that matter). We are not really convinced that our final salvation (glorification) is near. . .or nearer now than last week, month, or year. We don’t believe, really, that the night of man’s depravity and Satan’s dominion is almost done. We are not living with the certainty that the day of Christ’s return is imminent.

Perhaps if we did, we would rouse from our slumber, the most powerful force on Earth, unstoppable even by the gates of Hell, to proclaim the soon coming King!

Wake up!!
