Thought For The Day

Middle Ground

Some of the most frequent statements I hear are the ones that bother me most. That is especially true when I hear “public figures” talk about their “belief in Jesus Christ,” or their “faith in God,” and then move in a direction one hundred and eighty degrees from the clear revelation of Truth in Scripture.

I won’t attempt in this short thought to provide quotes and comments that demonstrate such. I will say that I fail to see a comprehension of the these words of Jesus: “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)

Most all of us want to occupy some middle ground. We want to embrace Christ, but encourage those who embrace other “ways.” We want to follow the Lord except when it conflicts with our intellectual pursuit of this World’s “wisdom.” We want to believe that “we belong to Him,” but it is difficult to see where He belongs to us in that we adopt the “servant” attitude and role.

The major worriment comes in the fact that I can’t find any middle ground. Paul told Titus (Titus 2:12ff) “To deny godlessness and worldly lusts, and live in a sensible, righteous, and Godly way in the present age. . .”

There’s no middle ground there!!
