Thought For The Day

Over-Pastored

Richard Cohen, a columnist for the Washington Post has an interesting column in today’s Post. In just one column he is extremely derogatory regarding the President of the United States, is critical of John McCain and Barrack Obama, and castigates Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, John Hagee, Rod Parsley, and Pat Robertson, (he calls them “right-wing pastors) and then states that the “liberal clergy is a faded force.” His general conclusion is that Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama are “over-pastored.”

Evidently Richard is only comfortable with Richard. He needs to think a little about his own ignorance when he makes statements like, “For too long now, the term “faith-based” has been synonymous with dumb” and “It’s dumb to reject evolution when all of science thinks the opposite.”  I am not familiar with anyone else who thinks that way about “faith-based” operations. And the community of thinking scientists are recognizing clearly that the whole concept of “evolution” as conceived by the Darwinian theories cannot be supported by 21st century scientific revelation.

Mr. Cohen says pastors are “too often small-minded men who swaddle their bigotry and ignorance in the soothing word ‘faith.'” I can safely say, that while my pastor may be small-minded, he is not bigoted or ignorant. Mr. Cohen wants pastors who are “tolerant.”  God doesn’t. I repeat my off stated claim – I don’t know anyone more intolerant than the God who inhabited flesh and walked among us.
