Thought For The Day

President Trump and Congress

Here’s a brief thought – President Trump’s speech to Congress on Tuesday evening reminds me of a lot of Churches. Perhaps you are wondering how that can be. Let me see if I can make the connection.

The President gave, maybe, his best speech ever. Whether one agrees or not is irrelevant. It’s politics. No matter what any President says, half (give or take as many as necessary) are going to like it, and the other half hate it. Last evening was no different. Half the people were excited and inspired by his words, and the other half think he is loony and needs to resign immediately. Half stood and applauded frequently, half were glued to their chairs looking as if they were watching a MMA tournament in which their favorite child was entering the cage to face the World Champion.

And so it is with the Sunday morning service in so many Churches. The Preacher is expounding the attributes and grace of God, reminding listeners that Christ died for them, chose to live in them, and provides them with every Spiritual blessing. Half (again, give or take as many as necessary) of the listeners are excited, rejoicing inwardly. . .and sometimes outwardly, recognizing the power of interaction with the resident Spirit in them. The other half are checking their watch, groaning about the staff being too pushy, and replaying in their minds the previous day’s golf game, or the latest rumor emanating from the water cooler, or deciding whether to take a cruise or fly on the next trip to Alaska.

Yeah, I think making that connection is not so difficult.
