Thought For The Day

Saturation Point

Fat is a health problem. I won’t argue that. But then, so are a lot of other things.

One of the problems I get exercised over is the increasingly evident role of Government in our lives. And the movement is well underway for more and more intervention culminating in less and less freedom. But this time, well, this is just too much!

From Los Angeles, comes word of the City Council’s desire to limit the amount of “fast food” restaurants because people are too fat. OK, but here’s the comment that got me steamed:

“What’s next — security guards at the door saying ‘You’re overweight, you can’t have a cheeseburger’?”

Now you can charge me $4 for a gallon of gas that produces more revenue for the Government than for the oil company that found, drilled, recovered, refined, and hauled the stuff to the gas station, and you can, with seemingly no concern, wrongly ruin the tomato market for farmers resulting in losses to them of millions of dollars, and you can tell me that I can’t build a storage shed in my back yard without your permission — but don’t even attempt to tell me I can’t have a deluxe bacon cheeseburger with double bacon and extra cheese. We’ll go to war over that!

I do know that God wants us to have healthy bodies. After all, they are the temple of God, and the vehicle by which we share the Good News of Christ’s death and life for all mankind. But if God did not want us eating cheeseburgers, He  would not have created Kincaid’s.
