Thought For The Day

Thanksgiving Passed

It’s over and many folks were stuffed with some of the best food one can look forward to at a Thanksgiving feast. Family and friends gathered (in various numbers) or they did not, and everyone had a had choice to make about their fear of being exposed to the current pandemic. In some places there were “rules” about how many, or how long folks could hang out together. I don’t know of any restrictions where we (my family and friends) met, so we just did what we always do.

Rules and Truths are alike in some ways – and very different in others. They are alike in that one may follow them or ignore them. Various consequences result from the choices one makes. It would seem to me, then, that knowing and having a clear understanding of such rules and Truths is vitally important. Rules are made by men. Sometimes they are called “laws,” and a violation of those laws can (and  usually will) bring some degree of minor or serious consequences. Sometimes one escapes the consequences without any retribution at all. For example, in some places it is a rule (law?) that no more than ten people can gather in any one spot at any given time. If one gets “caught” doing so, there will be a consequence (maybe), or not depending on the infraction. You may be “required” to wear a mask in public, and if you don’t you can be refused service, or, asked to leave, or shot down dead (well that is a bit of hyperbole just for laughs). Of course you may just be ignored because most people are not willing to confront someone else under any circumstances.

Will following the rules work to keep you safe in the pandemic? No one really knows. Sometimes people with masks die and those who don’t wear masks at all live on uninterupted, which makes the “rules” makers, and other citizens, really angry.

Truth(s) on the other hand is not structured in the same manner. The Sovereign Creator of all that exists, and the One who will speak the end to all thing regarding current life, spelled out the “laws” in His Word (the Bible). Impossible to understand without God’s intervention, one must seek the Sovereign God “while He may be found,” (Isaiah 55:6), and by  faith believe in he substitutional death of Christ for each individual,  after which the Spirit of God comes to take up residence in the Believer, teaching that individual “all things,” about the Truth (s).

With the current pandemic, should you get the virus, you may die. . .or you may go on living – it’s a toss up in favor of living, but dying is still “on the table” for you.

In life under the Truth, you will die at some point, and the consequence for failing to obey the Truth is that you will be separated from God forever.

Jesus said in John 11:26 ,”He that lives and believes in Me will never die – ever. Do you believe that?” This is a time to seriously consider the “rules” and the TRUTH. Knowing that one is in Christ through redemption purchased by His blood poured out on Calvary, brings a sense of well-being and certainty even in the midst of the pandemic sweeping through our World.  Lloveletters  encourages you to believe the Truth, and you will be set free form the curse of sin and death.
