Thought For The Day

The Debate

Many folks had little to no interest in the first Republican Presidential Debate. I heard today that 25 million people tuned in, which is probably a record for any non-sports cable program.

I don’t feel the need to comment on the politics, the good ideas, the bad ideas, and the attempts at silly rhetoric (which was engaged in by Mr. Trump) which most people won’t tolerate in a Presidential debate. Personally, I enjoy a good laugh anywhere, anytime. That’s why I have been known to make humorous remarks at funerals.

What I liked most about the debate was the clear, I repeat, clear claim on the part of some the candidates regarding personal faith in Jesus Christ. One would expect that of Mr. Huckabee, and Dr. Carson (if you know their history), but Ted Cruz, for example, talked about his father coming to “faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” That is the genuinely correct language of Scripture. He has alway (as far as I know) stood firm about his  faith in Christ, as well as that of his father.

I appreciate people (politicians) who talk about “God,” “their faith,” “Scripture reading,” and “prayer.” But even more, I am excited about those who know the Truth and seem to be able to speak about it with certainty. I am glad those words were heard by such a large audience.
