Thought For The Day

Tribute

I have seen some “shows” where the artists (a singing group, perhaps) pay “tribute” to another group. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference – perhaps we are somewhat unfamiliar with the artists for whom the tribute is offered.

Tribute – defined: as modifier ] denoting or relating to a group or musician that performs the music of a more famous one and typically imitates them in appearance and style of performance: a Eagles tribute band. (online dictionary)

Sometimes I think the individual for whom the most tribute impersonators exist is Elvis Presley. Watching some of them makes one think of Elvis, even though (probably) we have forgotten what Elvis was actually like. I just read an advertisement for a George Straight Tribute performance at the RockBox Theatre. Honestly, I wouldn’t know if it was a tribute or if it was George Straight himself.

But it got me to thinking – maybe we need more “tributes” to our Savior. I mean – we could imitate Him, walk as He walked, talk as He talked, so that our appearance reminded all who saw and heard of Jesus Christ Himself.

Actually, I am pretty sure that is what the Bible commands us to do. Isn’t that what Peter is talking about when he says that we are not to be conformed to what we used to be, rather, be conformed to the image of Christ? As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy. (1 Peter 1:14 HCSB)
