Thought For The Day

Weary and Worn

I visited a spot In Jesus’s adopted home town, Capernaum, where there is found the remains of an old Temple. It could be near the place where Jesus actually stood to preach, or not, but rather than focusing long about where Jesus walked and taught, we need to think about the ministry to which we, as Believers, are called to during these days.

In Matthew 9, we are told that Jesus, “when He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they are weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd.” If we could realize that we live in the same environment, surrounded by people who are in the same predicament, perhaps we would know our calling more clearly.

He and we have the message of Good News. His motive was about expressing compassion and meeting need. His method was using men to minister grace. We are now those men and women as the Church of Jesus Christ in 2020.

Jesus spoke a message from God – the same one those who followed Him shared. It is the message of llove (see John 3:16), the message of discipline (see Romans 12:1-2), and it is the message of eternal hope (see John 14:1).

Jesus moved with compassion, that is He allowed human passion (He was fully human as well as fully God) to drive Himself and other toward the need, and was often moved to tears over the plight of sinners.

Jesus called the original twelve (12) disciples to the harvest, to the work of His Spirit in men and women, and that calling has never changed. We are surrounded by those who are “weary and worn.” And, we know that truth, that feeling, that mind set, that reality, but we have the solution. Let’s share it!
