Thought For The Day

What If. . .?

There are times, I suppose, when all of us, or most of us, have dared to think about the “what ifs. . .” of life.

What if I lose my job? What if my spouse leaves me? What if a shooter comes to my place of business, my school, my Church? What if the stock market crashes? What if our National economy collapses? What if my candidate does not get elected?

Someone said – “Whatever worry will fix, go ahead and worry about.” We live in an uncertain, dangerous, volatile society. Murphy’s Law is right next to the Bible in relationship to Truth. Every day, in a zillion (next number after trillion – which our Government will soon be introducing) ways things can and do go wrong.

We have options. What we don’t have is certainty in our thinking regarding our actions in the face of troubles. We can check out – just stay in the bed, cover our heads, and wait. We can stress our mind and body until one of them breaks – both of which will send us back to the bed. We can work ourselves into an early grave moving Heaven and Earth to accomplish whatever it is that makes us think we have everything under control. Or, we can trust God.

I know that sounds simple – yet it may be the most difficult, complex, complicated, operation on which we will ever embark. It is supposed to be the easiest thing in the World to do – you know, “let go and let God.” Our minds and hearts are much to sophisticated for that. We know too much, we have experienced too much, and we have long ago learned that simple things are worthless things.

We need to start all over – trusting God the way I trusted my mom when I was too young too know and too fresh to care.

Didn’t Jesus say, “Except you be converted, and become as little children. . . .”
