Thought For The Day

What Was That Again?

Sometimes we have problems with our preacher. He’s a really nice guy, smart, handsome, and rides an exquisitely beautiful Harley, but not infrequently he says one thing and means another. For example, he is likely to invite you to the new Bible Study on Thursday evening and then wonder why no one shows up when he opens the building for the meeting on Tuesday evening. It’s probably just his age.

The Legislative Branch of our Government, not to mention the Executive branch, seems to have the same problem. For example, take this quote from Dow Jones Newswires by Corey Bowles –

The bid Wednesday to increase the country’s borrowing capacity by $1.9 trillion would increase the total debt the government can hold to $14.3 trillion, and is expected to support the government’s borrowing needs through 2010. This comes just a day after President Barack Obama proposed to freeze discretionary spending for three years starting in fiscal 2011.

If I understand that correctly, we (the US Government) are going to borrow our way to a balanced budget. I learned a long time ago that one can’t borrow one’s way out of debt. Why is it that “these people” can’t just say what they mean. They are going to keep spending, keep borrowing, and keep lying until they are out of office and/or dead. Of course they tell us they are going to debate the issue and make a decision about it at the Thursday meeting televised on C-span. But here’s the real secret. The meeting’s on Tuesday.

I know the answer to my own question. If you knew the truth you’d vote them out of office. It’s kind of like I tell our Preacher. If you can’t get it right, get someone else to make the announcement.
