What Will It Take

Something is wrong at the VA? Who knew?

I have been around Veterans and involved in ministry to Veterans for 40 years. Prior to that my Father did the same. I have heard narrative after narrative from Veterans and their families the entirety of that time regarding the difficultly of receiving healthcare at VA hospitals. Even care that was received was almost always considered sub-standard by many of those Veterans to whom we ministered. It was not everywhere all the time, but certainly systemic.

I am glad that something is finally being done regarding this terrible injustice. It is the Veteran to whom we owe everything that we are and all that we have as a Nation. Please don’t hear me saying that our indebtedness is not attributable to our Heavenly Father, but it is the Veteran who has fought battles around the World to keep us safe from those who would destroy our way of life.

I wish I had hope that all this will change for our men and women who deserve better. But, this scandal will run its course and the next scandal will take prominence. In all likelihood not much will change but the names of the bureaucrats.

From a Nation that returns its captured enemies to the field of battle – future veterans have much to fear. One pundit said it well – “we traded 5 Chuck Norris’ for one David Spade.”
