Thought For The Day

Who Needs It?

I found an old Church building with a cemetery, and one person who used to be a part of the Church. Most everybody else I know in the area knew it was there, and several people pass by it everyday. I, on the other hand, just found it.

It was formed in 1880 and some of the graves in the cemetery have markers engraved with CSA and flags. Since the War Between the States was over in 1865, some of those veterans would have  died in the 1880 and after, and several of them are buried there.

I spoke with the last member of the Church that’s still around, and who manages to pay the bills (lights, water, etc.), but no one has met there in a long time.

The building is in really poor shape. . .at least on the outside. Lots of debris, decay, and varmint destruction is evident. On the inside the auditorium is dusty and worn. . .but usable. Can’t say much for the restroom or classrooms. They are pretty sad.

But that member. . .I just can’t get her off my mind. She wants to see it live again. She wants it to be used as a place where our Father is praise and worshipped.

Can that sort of thing be done? Most buildings are in better shape, there are people around close, there is support from other Churches, and strong leadership is available. Usually there is financial support from one source or another. Obviously no one has tried to do anything to revive this venture in the last few years.

What do you think? Forget it! There are other Churches in the area. Go for it! Would you? What would the Master do were he walking physically among us?

It is a conundrum. No question.
