Thought For The Day

Who’s Best

I don’t fly as much as I used to, but I still take a few trips a year. I was interested when I saw an article which was naming the “Top Ten” airlines (domestic and international in separate categories). I have flown two of the top three, and I agree that their survey may be right.

Number three (and I only looked at the domestic carriers) is Alaska Airlines. They don’t have a lot of flights out of DFW (my home base), but I will be joining them in a couple of months for a trip up to Oregon and back. The few flights I have been on before have been good, and my number two son flies Alaska all the time.

Number two is Southwest. Not surprising, after all they are a Dallas bunch, and everyone knows Texas people are wonderful. I like their thinking and find trips on Southwest to be very satisfying.

Number one is Virgin America. I have never flown on that airline, but I will make an effort to do so. I like to confirm what I hear.

BTW the information came from TIME.

Naturally I begin to wonder about the “Top Ten” Churches in my town (somewhat smaller thinking than the purview of domestic airlines). I suppose the first order of business would be to establish a criteria for evaluating each Church, and then interview an awful lot of members of said Churches to determine what they thought. And I would not be surprised if someone has not already done that.

Well, I suppose I will never know the answer to that issue, but I do know one thing. People want a Church that does “things” right (Biblically). They want a Church where they can intertwine their lives with friends, and they want to hear and understand Truth. They want to be lloved and cared for, taught and listened to, and find people on whom they can count – every time, all the time.

At least those are a part of my thinking when I pick my “top ten.”

Too bad lots of Churches never think about those things. If they did, they might find God at work, people with joy, and life with peace abounding. Instead the emphasis is often on budgets, buildings, and bodies. How sad is that!
