Thought For The Day

A Word To The Wise

It’s been going on for at least 2000 years. People get focused on the wrong person, and focused-on persons get caught saying and doing the wrong thing. Not surprisingly the Church of Jesus Christ takes another hit from those who would do anything to damage the work of God in the World.

Victoria Olsteen decided to become the co-pastor of her husband’s Church and in her ignorance continues to make huge mistakes when she attempts to speak of God’s person, plan, design, and Truth. While she may voice the views of her husband, she is seldom accurate in voicing the view of Scripture.

Rob Bell, theologian, writer, possessor of an incredible mind, has moved from Pastoring an ostensibly evangelical Church of over 10,000 members to being a surfer dude, and part of Oprah Winfrey’s “church of what’s happening now.”

Mark Driscoll, former Pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, got messed up in too many problems, and suspended from the Staff. Now the Church is closing many of it’s multiple sites, and is likely to cease to exist.

One could talk about a multitude of others over the years of the Church who have become the  prominent “leader” rather than the conspicuous servant.

The Scripture is clear that the the greatest leader in the Church is the most purposeful servant. Getting one’s eyes on one’s self rather than on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, almost always leads to an unrighteous downfall.

The wise person will be careful to never develop an unhealthy focus on a single person, who journeys with us in the Kingdom of God, and allow that person to become the one they follow. We follow Christ – always, only, completely. Others are objects of our servant hearts, our support, our llove, and our attention if they are those who communicate the Truth.

Don’t get caught up in building pedestals on which to elevate people in the Church. We lift up our Lord Jesus Christ – and Him alone.
