Thought For The Day

Caught. . .

Sometimes we get caught in a net. . .because we don’t know it’s there. It’s a secret. . .so says Psalm 31:4.  God’s role is to free us from those nets as we trust Him, understand that he is our refuge, and experience our redemption from sin, sorrow, self-pity, and pride.

One net that is a problem in so many lives is that of an incorrect focus. Some are devoted to idols (anything that stands between God and us). It could be a job, financial resources, habits, or hobbies. . .even one’s family. Where is your focus, your attention, and your effort. The secret is that those are good things used badly. (see Psalm 31:6)

Another net is that of sorrowing, grief, and groaning. One spends valuable time asking, “what happened to me, who offended me or hurt me, there are bad things that destroyed my opportunity. Who do you talk about all the time? It is a secret because we are convinced that everything is someone else’s fault. (see Psalm 31:9-10a)

A third net is that of self-pity. No one cares about me. No one notices what I have accomplished or conquered. How often do you have a “pity-party?” It is a secret because we think no one knows about our feelings of inadequacy. (see Psalm 31:12-13)

Psalm 31:4-5 supplies the solution – allow escape from the net – offers a new way to face the World.

Vs. 4 – Trust, God is our refuge

Vs. 5 – Give, Your life totally into His hands

Vs. 5 – Experience redemption from sin, sorrow, self-pity, and pride.
