Thought For The Day

Danger Fatigue

Even as the News Media begin to warn residents of Louisiana, many in the city of New Orleans said they were not planning to evacuate again regardless the path of Ike.

“And once again, New Orleans — still recovering from the weaker-than-expected Hurricane Gustav — could be in the crosshairs as Ike winds through its uncertain path. In Louisiana, Gov. Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency Sunday for Ike and urged residents to get ready to head north again. He said so-called “hurricane fatigue” should not prevent people from evacuating their homes for the second time in 10 days.” (Associated Press)

We’ve been experiencing the same type of danger-fatigue in the Church. People have heard the warnings that the sin of unbelief will forever separate them from God  so often that most no longer listen to, much less heed, the message. They are convinced that somehow the wrath of God will miss them, they will be able to ride out the difficulties until “universality” kicks in and all will be saved.

Unfortunately, the Truth never changes. Ike will go somewhere. Destruction will follow. Christ will return to claim His own, and the rest will face the condemnation of their failure to respond to grace. If you can still hear the warning – move to “higher ground.”
