Thought For The Day

To Know My End

Early this morning one of my friends, my family, died. I had spent some time with her yesterday, and I expressed my concern to other family members — perhaps the end of this life was near.

I never cease to be amazed at how unprepared for death we are. . .as if, somehow, it is not coming for each of us. I am reminded of the words of the Psalmist, “Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am.”

The best comfort in death is knowing that one has moved from this troubled world to the manifest presence of the infinite God of Heaven and Earth. Even a life well-lived, successful, comfortable, and long, leaves little room for celebration unless we have that assurance. My friend, my family member, is in the presence of God. I am sure rich rewards await, and “well done” is the expression of the Master’s voice.

If you don’t know “your end,” you’re not ready for it. Surely not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but the end of this life is coming. Measure your days!
